We met at the Old Arcade (traditional Brains pub). The planned
open-top bus tour was abandoned because - guess what - it
was raining in Cardiff. We returned to the hall for a siesta.
Reconvening, a good deal more alcohol was consumed - including
a rum and lime concoction/cocktail, courtesy of Nick Birch,
which was described as smelling and tasting 'medical' by one
attendee!
A dinner at the Juboraj (Mill Lane, The Hayes), was attended
by three of the lecturers who continue to teach at Cardiff
University - David Pascoe, Pete Randerson and Martin Day.
Dai Gregson and Howard Jeffrey joined us for the meal. The
festivities were due to continue at Flares '70s disco but
thankfully the entrance queue was moving too slowly and we
retired for a Kitchen Party at the hall.
On Sunday we re-grouped in better weather to admire our various
vehicles - somewhat improved from student days - and enjoyed
'breakfast in the bay', at what used to be the 'no-go area'
of Cardiff Docks.
We dispersed at around mid-day with a feeling of having renewed
old acquaintances and friendships as if they had only been
briefly interrupted. We agreed to meet again - probably next
year - to allow those that couldn't make it this time to attend
- and in the long term to reconvene on roughly a 5-year basis.
